True Blood Review---Slightly True

I watched the first episode of 'True Blood' last and it was fun. It's not a favorite yet, but I've programmed my DVR to record new episodes--which means I've committed. I still don't know about Anna Paquin, as an actress. I'm sure she's a lovely person but I thought she was miscast in 'X-Men' and I think she's been miscast here. I know she won an Oscar when she was 10 years old, but in the roles I've seen her in, I don't find her believable, particularly not in this instance.

I also didn't like the male lead, Bill (Stephen Moyer), for whatever reason. I don't know, he didn't seem "vampiry" enough or maybe I don't find him attractive. Vampires are typically supposed to be alluring. I don't know what it is.

HBO is the one premium channel I invest in. I dropped Showtime a few years ago in lieu of HBO, particularly after Showtime cancelled Dead Like Me. After that, Showtime was dead to me. I specifically got HBO for Rome and Deadwood, which are both stellar...but sadly cancelled. HBO has a good reputation when it comes to tv series and mini-series. HBO most recently did the 7-part John Adams mini-series, which was brilliant. Probably one of the best period pieces I've ever seen. So I'm going to hold out hope that the show gets better.

I will continue to watch True Blood as I recently purchased the Charlene Harris novel, "Dead Until Dark," which is currently located in the glove compartment of my car. At the time I bought it, I didn't realize that 'True Blood' was based on Charlene's novels.
