'District 9' was one of the best, most original, science fiction films I have ever seen. However, it's bloody, bloody, bloody-- bring your goggles. I almost couldn't take some of the gore, but overall the movie was incredible and I've never seen anything like it before. This is what sci-fi is supposed to be--cutting edge, unpredictable, mind-blowing...
Plot: An extraterrestrial race referred to as "Prawns" are forced to live in South African slums after their spaceship crashes. They are treated poorly, manipulated, abused, and experimented on. Wikus (Copley) is originally sent to relocate the Prawn, but eventually becomes sympathetic to their plight through an unusual set of circumstances. Brilliant, brilliant, film.
FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS
I'm afraid I don't share your enthusiasm for this movie. I liked it, but less than many people did (including most professional critics.)
ReplyDeletePart of the problem I had was that my expectations were too high. I had been led to believe that it was an original science fiction movie and it wasn't. The first third is Alien Nation, the second third is The Fly remake and the final third is Rambo. Maybe I've just seen too many 80s movies.
Had I known absolutely nothing about it before I saw it I probably would have felt it was a decent movie.
