Go Ask Alice...When She's 10 Feet Tall

Directed by TIM BURTON
Starring MIA WASIKOWSKA, HELEN BONHAM-CARTER,
JOHNNY DEPP, and ANNE HATHAWAY

Plot:  A much older Alice attends a garden party at Lord Ascot's estate, where she is given a most unwanted marriage proposal.  Feeling stifled and overwhelmed, Alice retreats to the woods where she sees a rabbit in a blue waistcoat.  What happens next?  You guessed it, she falls in the rabbit hole and goes to Wonderland.  She meets some familiar characters, including the White Rabbit; the Dormouse; the Dodo; and Tweedledum and Tweedledee; but most of the film is about Alice preparing to battle the Red Queen's Jabberwocky, so as to restore the White Queen to power.

If this is sounding a lot like Through the Looking Glass, that's because it is.  This film is not a true adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.  If you're expecting a faithful adaption of Alice in Wonderland, then don't see this movie. Secondly, this is a Tim Burton film, he doesn't faithfully adapt anything. The movie is visually stunning, but fell a little short on the storyline, but overall it was entertaining and worth seeing.

THREE OUT OF FIVE STARS

  1. At first when they couldn't decide if they were making Alice in Wonderland or its sequel I was getting flashbacks to Superman Returns, which did the same thing. Luckily, Burton managed to pull this one out and I liked the film.

It also continued Burton's string since the 90s of every other movie being good (Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland) vs. bad (Mars Attacks, Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd.)
