Outsourced

Directed by DUNCAN JONES
Starring JAKE GYLLENHALL, MICHELLE MONAGHAN,
VERA FARMINGA, and JEFFREY WRIGHT

'Source Code' is solid through and through. I'm not a Jake Gyllenhaal fan but this was a good movie. I truly enjoyed it. It was well-written, well-done, and well-acted. The film also contains some hard sci-fi aspects, which I like. This movie is 'Quantum Leap' x's 'Groundhog Day' x's 'Under Siege 2.' Who would have thought of this combination? If only Hollywood used this kind of material more often.
Trailer

Plot: Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes up on a train he never boarded on it's way to Chicago. He's sitting next to a woman he's never met, Christina Warren (Michelle Monaghan). He's lost his memory. His last memory is flying a helicopter in Afghanistan before being ambushed. When he goes to the bathroom to collect himself, he looks in the mirror to find that his reflection is not his reflection. Some unknown guy is staring back at him. Before he can understand what's happening, the train suddenly explodes and he wakes up strapped in a strange chamber. He's soon greeted by Capt. Colleen Goodwin, a fellow soldier, played wonderfully by (Vera Farmiga). Capt. Goodwin wants to know if he's completed his mission. It must have been difficult acting primarily to a blank screen, but somehow she manages to pull it off quite well.

What follows is a great train ride mystery and hard sci-fi. Not only does Capt. Stevens need to figure out what happened to the train, but he also needs to figure out what happened to him. Overall, this movie was fantastic and a film that will appeal to a mass audience, as well as the sci-fi community.

FOUR - 1/2 OUT OF FIVE STARS

  1. I did a blind buy on this and was pleasantly surprised by it. I don't often do blind buys because sometimes you get burned (hello Reign of Fire.)

I've watched many of Michelle Monaghan's movies since I first saw her in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. She doesn't get to do much in this movie other than react, but that's par for the course.

The science in this movie makes about as much sense as in Deja Vu, but at least Source Code is a better movie.
