Carter Who?

The long-awaited trailer for John Carter of Mars (now just called John Carter) is finally here.  Taylor Kitsch (of X-Men Origins: Wolverine) stars as the title character and Lynn Collins (also of X-Men Origins) stars as Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Helium.  The rest of the cast include more familiar faces, such as Willem Dafoe, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Bryan Cranston, and Ciaran Hinds. John Carter is a confederate civil war veteran prospecting in the old west when he is mysteriously transported to Mars. While on Mars, Carter discovers an Avatar-like planet with 12-foot tall "green" inhabitants and the beautiful Princess of Helium, Dejah.  John Carter is based on the legendary science fiction anthology, the Barsoom series by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Burroughs is best known for the creation of Tarzan.
Taylor Kitsch as John Carter?  He's cute but...
After such a long wait I'm sorry to say that I am somewhat disappointed with the teaser preview.  It's premature to say, but it didn't capture me as I had hoped.  The storyline is so incredibly fascinating that I hate to see it Disney-fied.  C'est la vie.

John Carter releases March 9, 2012.

  1. Disappointed yes, but who could live up to those fanart expectations...?

  2. True, but I think Chris Hemsworth (Thor) would have been a better John Carter. There are a few others I could think of that would have been better choices. But you're right the art is hard to match.

  3. Hi Msmariah. Thanks for dropping in on Captain Picard's Journal. Hope you look back on some older entries. It has been going since April 2005. All characters 'guest post', and I have created new ones. Wesley Crusher married an amazon named Karena who has a daughter named Sheena. Data has a girlfriemnd named Jennifer Baxter. Lieutenant Britney and Mirror T'Pol are gay. All the regulars are there. Enjoy!

  4. I seriously don't buy that trailer and how the story was Disney-fied too. I can see this movie flop just like their attempt with Prince of Persia.

  5. @Jaccstev-- Or "Pecs of Persia" as I call it. They're going to destroy John Carter. It's been seriously Disney-fied.
