The Rise of Felicia Day

Perhaps I'm late in acknowledging this, but Felicia Day has officially replaced Summer Glau as sci-fi's latest "it" girl. Summer was/is my favorite, so I was hesitant to give Day her due. But the quirky Day has met this sci-fi geek's burden of proof and is a household name (at least in my circle of friends).
She joins the ranks of fellow sci-fi "it" girls, Summer GlauMilla JovovichNichelle NicholsLinda Hamilton, and the original sci-fi "it" girl, Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher. I've listed just a few of the reasons Day belongs on the list:
  1. The geeks flock to her at the science fiction conventions. I personally witnessed this at last year's Dragon Con;
  2. Her resume (Day's been a "slayer in training" in Buffy the Vampire Slayer; starred in Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog; created her own cult-status web series The Guild, which makes geeks weep with delight; finished a season-long role on Eureka; and most recently starred in one of my favorite shows, Supernatural.); and
  3. Lastly, my husband, who is a bona fide sci-fi/gamer geek, won't stop talking about her.
So yes, Ms. Day receives my begrudging respect in the world of science fiction. If you haven't heard of Day, here is a selection of her greatest hits.

  5. R-- Me too! I can't get enough of that show.

    Tom-- I used to feel the same way. I still think (in a superficial way) that's she a little too quirky and "toothy," but overall she does a good job representing us scifi geeks.

    Alex-- I know. I'm sad period when it comes to that show. I can't believe it will be gone soon.

    Christine-- She really is. That's what I like about her.

  8. I like most things I've seen her in. I've never played an online game in my life, but I really enjoyed The Guild when I watched it.

    @Alex J. Cavanaugh - thanks for the massive spoiler. A warning would have been nice.
