Sad Day At The Movies

Century Theater in Aurora, Colorado
Today is truly a sad day at the movies. My original post was going to be a snarky commentary on the obscene and constant promotion of 'The Dark Knight Rises,' but today that hardly feels appropriate. As a film buff, I've spent countless hours in cold, dark movie theaters. Too many hours. Going to the movies is supposed to be safe, fun, and imaginative. It's not supposed to be tragic.

For those who haven't heard, a gunman opened fire killing over a dozen people at the Century Theater in Aurora, Colorado during a midnight showing of 'The Dark Knight Rises.' The gunman was wearing a bulletproof vest and shot people at random, including children. The mass shooting is one of the worst in American history. Moviegoers described the scene as absolute chaos and terror.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. I am incredibly saddened by this terrible event that took these people's lives. Warner Brothers has cancelled the Paris premiere of the film, which is appropriate. Hopefully the media won't try to link this tragedy to the movie itself. This could have happened anywhere, at any movie.

  1. The gunman was a man named James Holmes and police arrested him in the parking lot. I hope that fucker fries. I hate seeing this stuff in my own state.

  3. I grew up in Aurora... This one really hit close to home. I've been to that theater more times than I can count. Colorado survived columbine, we can survive this. Sad day.
