WEEKLY RUNDOWN NEWS + LINKS

Before getting into any of the happenings this week, I wanted to take a moment and acknowledge that the movie blogging community has suffered a huge loss. Thank you to Chris at Movies and Songs 365 for his wonderful post about Chip. First, I want to say how personally saddened I am by this news. Chip was one of the first bloggers who visited my site when I was just starting out 8 years ago. He was an incredible film blogger with deep insight and and a friendly disposition. I will always be grateful to Chip's kind words when I was a new blogger with very few friends in the community. He was a class act and just a wonderful person. Chip you will be missed. May God rest your soul and Godspeed friend. Godspeed.

HUH?
So we live in a world where a show like 'The Bachelor' is still on the air, but 'Supergirl' is struggling to get renewed. I don't understand this. 'Supergirl's ratings are still good, but evidently not good enough for an automatic renewal because of licensing fees. Now there's talk that 'Supergirl' may be transferred to the CW, which may or may not be a good thing. Good--because the CW knows how to handle superhero shows. Bad--because it's the CW and 'Supergirl's budget will likely be slashed. Oh and I just love getting into debates with people on message boards about 'Supergirl' being too preachy or feminist. Oh come on! It's about a female superhero coming into her powers. This is no different than any other superhero...she just happens to be female.
After that awful 'Walking Dead' cliffhanger (and the merciless trolling of fans during season 6), both Scott Gimple and Robert Kirkman have denied "screwing with the viewers." Supposedly, they just wanted everyone to "talk about it," which is what happened. So mission accomplished, right? Kirkman apologized (kinda) for the backlash, but then promises that Season 7 is going to be so awesome we won't care--like childbirth. You go through the pain, but then forget all about it when the baby is here. Nope. Nope. Just nope. I'll just be fast forwarding to JDM's scenes. I'm totally hate watching 'The Walking Dead' now.
On the opposite end of the spectrum I am so NOT looking forward to 'X-Men Apocalypse.' Somehow 'X-Men: First Class' went from the 1960s, the 1970s in 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' now they're in the mid-1980s and everyone looks like they're on the set of 'Miami Vice,' but they haven't seemed to have aged. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) must age about 30 years in the span of the 15 years before the original 'X-Men' film debuted in the year 2000.

YES TO LETO...NO TO REMAKES
Matt Ryan Tobin
I love both the novel and the film 'Interview with the Vampire.' I'm by no means a Tom Cruise fan, but Cruise was crazy good as Lestat the Brat Prince. He was so good in that role I almost can't picture anyone else in this role. Part of me wishes the original film would NOT be remade, while at the same time, the Vampire Chronicles as a whole have not been given a proper film treatment. 'Interview with the Vampire's sequel 'Queen of the Damned' was probably one of the worst book to film adaptions I have ever seen.

If remaking 'Interview' comes with more Vampire Chronicle films then I'm excited. I'm even more excited to see that Jared Leto may be cast as Lestat. Leto is a brilliant actor and I'm sure his Lestat will be delicious. Unfortunately, I'm concerned about who is writing the new screenplay for 'Interview.' Anne Rice herself wrote the original screenplay, so needless to say the screenplay was fantastic. I do not share the same confidence in Josh Boone, director of 'The Fault in our Stars.'
Unlike Olivia Munn (Psylocke) who had to put her costume on with lube, Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlett Witch will never wear her comic book costume-- because it's 2016 and female superheroes don't need to be in skintight leotards with tape holding up their boobs. I actually really liked the Scarlett Witch's outfit in 'Avenger: Age of Ultron.' In fact, I think that was the only thing I liked about that movie. The Scarlett Witch's jacket was killer awesome.

Funny
I'm sorry but this is hilarious. Do people still keep money in their boobs and socks?

  1. Thanks for the link!
That is disgusting. Sad they have to put up a sign.
Supergirl isn't as good as The Flash, but I still enjoy it. Remember when shows wiht average ratings ran for several seasons?

    1. Ha, ha. I thought it was hilarious! No, Supergirl isn't as good as the Flash, but I do enjoy it. I know! It's like if a show doesn't have amazing ratings right off the bat it gets cancelled. The CW seems to give shows a chance.

  4. I'm sorry to hear about Chip, that's awful. I wasn't familiar with his blog but it's still so sad to lose internet friends.

TWD lost so much credibility with this cliffhanger. I hope they never get it back. I hope their ratings take a good hit.

Thank God Wanda will never wear her comic costume. I really like the trench coat she has in Civil War. It's a nice look.

    Thanks for the link!

    1. You're welcome! Yes, Chip was an excellent film blogger. He was so awesome. I always loved to see his comments.

Oh yes, TWD totally lost credibility this year. I hope they try to course correct in season 7. There was way too much trolling the fans this season. It wasn't funny, it was just stupid. I'll watch until it ends, but I have started to hate this show.

    1. Aw thank Chris! I really liked Chip. I'm so sad that he's gone and I didn't get a chance to properly say goodbye. He was such a sweet soul.

  6. I had only recently crossed paths with Chip. Hate that he's passed, but glad he's made such an impression on a number of us in the blogging world.

That sign is just hilarious. And yeah, people still do that.

I've only seen bits and pieces of the Supergirl show because it happened to fall on a night when I'm usually tremendously busy. What I saw was pretty good, though. I hope it finds a home, one way or another. Just know that for some dudes, anything about a woman is 'too feminist,' lol.

I get your points about the X-Men movies, but I'm still looking forward to Apocalypse.

I also get your trepidation on a remake for "Interview with a Vampire," but like you said, if this means bringing the entire series to the screen properly then let's do it.

Elizabeth Olsen...yes. Scarlet Witch's comic book costume? Thank goodness they didn't go with that. Now, if they can give the actress a better character than they did in Age of Ultron, we'll really have something.

    Thanks for the link!

    1. He was such a prolific blogger. Not seeing his blog anymore is going to hurt. Glad you got a chance to cross paths with him.

Ha ha, evidently they do! I just thought that sign was so hilarious.

Supergirl has some issues. It needs a lot of work. I'm hopeful that the 2nd season will be better. It would probably do better on CW, but it's budget will be slashed.

Ha, ha yes, Olsen had a little more to do in this film. Still not enough to do as far as I was concerned, but her role was improved somewhat.

    1. I know. I'm still really upset about it. I have been following Chip so long. I wish I would have gone by his site again before he passed. You just never know when you will last speak to someone. That's what upsets me the most.
